The portrait commission begins with a thorough discussion of what will make the best portrait. Many factors are taken into account, such as the sitter's characteristics and preferences, the intended place for display, the desired size, and much more. Ideally portraits are painted from life in a series of sittings. When distance or time constraints exist, an extensive photo shoot is performed instead. A concept for the portrait is then developed and sent for approval. Using high quality archival materials, the actual work on the portrait begins. Upon completion, but prior to framing and delivery, a second approval takes place. Any desired changes are made. Finally, the portrait is framed and delivered. Generally, the portrait commission takes six months to complete.

Prices are subject to change without notice. A simple gradated background is included. These are general sizes; custom sizes are also available. Additional siblings on separate canvases receive a 10% discount. Included  within the fee are all consultations, photo shoots when needed, travel and delivery within a fifty-mile radius, high quality artist supplies, and guaranteed satisfaction. Although these prices do not include framing, Old Garden Arts offers custom framing and/or recommendations. Beyond sales tax for Virginia residents, there are no further costs. Every portrait is painted with the utmost care intending for it to be an enduring piece of art.
