History of
Old Garden Arts

Winter Harvest, 20" x 24", oil on canvas
More than a decade ago, Old Garden Arts began as Old Garden Farms, a small farm surrounded
by rice and hay fields in the California Gold Rush country. An old bull pen served as the first garden.
Soon the vegetables outgrew this space, and it was dubbed the "old
garden". Somehow the name struck a chord and became the name for the
small market farm where Sarah grew over 600 varieties of organically grown flowers
and gourmet vegetables for the farmer's market. The produce displays of heirloom
varieties and dried flower bunches inspired the artist in the gardener.
Who can possibly resist the color harmonies that nature itself presents?
In 1999 a move from California to Virginia entailed selling the farm and Old Garden Farms changed to Old Garden Arts. A decade later, in 2009, another move temporarily found Old Garden Arts just outside of Philadelphia in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. In May 2010, Sarah returned to her Virginia studio and gardens where she probably is at this moment with either a shovel or brush in her hand.
